Javelin Diagrams: A Graphical Tool for Probabilistic Sensitivity Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
T demonstrate post hoc robustness of decision problems to parameter estimates, analysts may conduct a probabilistic sensitivity analysis, assigning distributions to uncertain parameters and computing the probability of decision change. In contrast to classical threshold proximity methods of sensitivity analysis, no appealing graphical methods are available to present the results of a probabilistic sensitivity analysis. Here we introduce an analog of tornado diagrams for probabilistic sensitivity analysis, which we call javelin diagrams. Javelin diagrams are graphical augmentations of tornado diagrams displaying both the probability of decision change and the information value associated with individual parameters or parameter sets. We construct javelin diagrams for simple problems, discuss their properties, and illustrate their realistic application via a probabilistic sensitivity analysis of a seven-parameter decision analysis from the medical literature.

Decision analysis with influence diagrams using Elvira's explanation facilities
Explanation of reasoning in expert systems is necessary for debugging the knowledge base, for facilitating their acceptance by human users, and for using them as tutoring systems. Influence diagrams have proved to be effective tools for building decision-support systems, but explanation of their reasoning is difficult, because inference in probabilistic graphical models seems to have little rel...
متن کاملJavelin diagrams: applications in veterinary medical decision analysis.
This paper introduces javelin diagrams as an innovative way for depicting the results of medical decision analyses. The methods were used to determine whether, and at which values, blood lactate in Belgian White and Blue or maximum tidal volumes in Holstein calves should be measured before deciding to treat or not a calf suffering from the bovine respiratory disease complex. The different alter...
متن کاملA Note on Tornado Diagrams in Interval Decision Analysis
Group have resulted in a decision tool capable of handling imprecise information in complex decision situations. Some of the research has been directed towards developing decision analytical algorithms and applying these algorithms in a graphical user interface. The decision tool takes intervals as well as comparative relations as input constraint, and is incorporating sensitivity analyses into...

متن کاملVariable Elimination for Interval-Valued Influence Diagrams
Influence diagrams are probabilistic graphical models used to represent and solve decision problems under uncertainty. Sharp numerical values are required to quantify probabilities and utilities. Yet, real models are based on data streams provided by partially reliable sensors or experts. We propose an interval-valued quantification of these parameters to gain realism in the modelling and to an...
